12 November there is a rare and unique performance by saxophonist Donnie McCaslin at Caribbean Club!
In January 2016, he recorded the saxophone for David Bowie’s last album “Blackstar”.
Two years after the release of Blackstar, McCaslin returned with his new album Blow., With a completely new, clear vision, which fully reflects Bowie’s influence and the development of McCaslin as an artist. “It would have been impossible before working with him,” says Grammy nominee McCaslin about Blow, her most daring work in two decades.
Despite his long successful career, McCaslin grew up playing in his father’s jazz ensembles in Santa Cruz, California and began recording his material in the late 90s. Working with Bowie undoubtedly made a big influence on his musical vision. “He said: follow what you hear, and don’t be discouraged by the name or label,” McCaslin recalls the words of the iconic artist. “Play the music and enjoy it.” McCaslin took these words to heart and embodied this philosophy on “Blow”.
His set includes such incredible songs like Break the Bond, Exactlyfourminutesofimprovisedmusic, Tempest, Eye of the Beholder, The Opener and others.
Donnie McCaslin and his band will play jazz that you have not heard before.
