Professor Lebedinsky. “I’ll kill you boatman!” And all the hits.

He starts playing the piano, when he was 3. He begin to compose the  music at the age of 5. He took the piano lessons at the preparatory group of the music school at the Leningrad Conservatory from 4 to 6 years.

He graduated from the city’s music school #32 in piano of Elena Evgenyavna Hinitsa class in 1983. He has performed at the Grand Hall of the Leningrad Philharmonic as the best graduate of the music schools of the USSR, where he was heard by Richter. Richter insisted he to continue studying at Eliso Virsaladze piano class, but he didn’t want to make the career of classical pianist .

In 1985, by Boris Borisovich Grebenshchikov recommendations he recorded the first material at the studio of Andrei Tropillo.

Alias ‘Professor Lebedinsky‘ originated as follows. Every time, calling a taxi, Alex used to be presented for the solidity as ‘Professor Lebedinsky‘ to make taxi come to him quicker. The nickname ‘Professor’ firmly tied to Alex and later became the stage name.

Professional arranger Alexei Lebedinsky recorded a parody to the popular Russian chanson, caricatured wheeze, a primitive synthesizer and lurid lyrics of unexpected words in the chorus, which immediately became part of the folklore in the mid of 90s. Lebedinsky, who had a purely indirect relationship to the stage, was one of the wittiest people among singers.

Most people do not understand what this song is about. They hear only the text in the verse and just yell. ‘Boatman’ is an absolute kitsch about specific events in history. It’s a song about the boy, who wants to undermine the cruiser ‘Aurora’, thinking that the caused of what is happened in the country, when he shot. But no one even think about it. Can you imagine? No one! People line up some associations in the head, because of the figure of speech that I wrote being drunk. Well they like, for example, a string that goes after each verse: ‘And then I grabbed the guy by the lapels …’. That’s what they love. They like the structure. From one hand, I can understand it. From the other, well, what do you expect?! The song was written in 5 minutes by me being drunk.

The song about “vatniky”, singer who now lives in the US, has written to ‘clean the brain befuddled Russian citizens’.

– I am active opponent of the Putin regime, no one could have any doubt about it even before the start of military operations in Ukraine. I have many years of irritable throughout the system, and therefore had to leave.

The song is a satire on contemporary Russian social stratum, called ‘vatniky’. The melody is a copy of very famous song by Mike Naumenko ‘Gopnik’:
