David Berkman is an American jazz musician and composer.
He loves jazz since his childhood. His father wanted David had become a bass player. But his father had always listened to Oscar Peterson, Tommy Flanagan, Bill Evans, Hank Jones, Wynton Kelly and they were piano players. That was a point of David’s decision to become a pianist.
David has some awards like 2000 Doris Duke/Chamber Music America New Works Creation and Presentation Grant.
He played in many bands like Cecil McBee, Tom Harrell and The Vanguard Orchestra.
He played with such musicians like Sonny Stitt, Brian Blade, Joe Lovano, Dave Douglas, Ray Drummond, Billy Hart, Dick Oatts, Tony Malaby, Robin Eubanks, Steve Wilson, Chris Potter, Scott Wendholt, Lenny White, Scott Colley, Bill Stewart, Dave Stryker, Fathead Newman, Hank Crawford, and Jane Monheit.
He wrote, «The Jazz Musician’s Guide to Creative Practicing» (2007), «The Jazz Singer’s Guidebook» (2009) and «The Jazz Harmony Book» (2014) as well.
