Oat People

Hundreds of thousands of people tried to tell about jazz using millions of words. And he managed with the few. The rest will be told by the hand, fingers and the guitar. We mean Sergey Ovsyannikov, the leader of the band Oat People.

The band Oat People presents The Land in the cozy walls of the Caribbean Club on the 16th of May. This hall seems to be designed for deep, soulful music, jazz is able here to reach every heart, and the atmosphere disposes to diving into the depths of music.

The leading of the jazz evening will be Ukrainian jazz musician, radio host and organizer of jazz festivals Alexey Kogan.

‘In the end, everything has to be simple. Though strange and incomprehensible will be perceived quicker,’ – once said Sergey Ovsyannikov. This is about music in general, and about his music in particular.

Charlie Parker said that to understand jazz, you must first perfectly conduct your instrument, then listen to everything that was created on it, and then forget the first and the second, and … just play. Oat People do everything as bequeathed by the great Parker.

It’s not the first time Ukraine gives the birth to talents and doesn’t rush to shout about them to the world. But the world still knows about the best – music has no borders, it is generously poured from the windows, and traveling the world. Our music is an author, and unique, and claims to become the jazz world standard in the near future.

Ukrainian jazz is known in the world, not least thanks to Sergey Ovsyannikov and his projects. He performed together with Andreas Oberg, and the legendary Pat Metheny was grateful to Sergey for personally dedicated for him jazz piece. A few years ago the composition of Ovsyannikov Blue Dress was included to the top ten songs, which were often broadcast on the radio in Belgium.

Is there is a fashion for music? If so, then it’s hardly could be understood by the musicians. The way of Sergey Ovsyannikov passed through fusion, jazz-rock, then he had a long love affair with the style of jazz manouche or gypsy jazz (a stepson of ‘great jazz’, but not less sincere and incredible).

‘Jazz manouche is not a big business – says Sergei, and his eyes are sad – but it could appear in the modern jazz’.

And here is the long-awaited return to the main stream! You hear Oat People on the 16th of May.

Oat People is the claim, it is complicated harmony, modern rhythms, new European sound. However, the true connoisseurs know Ovsyannikov music from the first notes. After all, ‘everything should be simple!’
