August 17, Gratitude to Giya Kancheli — on the Maestro’s birthday, we invite you to a special musical evening dedicated to one of the greatest composers of the 20th century, Giya Kancheli.

On August 17, Aniko Dolidze, accompanied by leading Ukrainian jazz musicians, will present Gratitude to Giya Kancheli: Music for Theatre and Cinema, a program dedicated to the outstanding Georgian composer.
Gratitude to Giya Kancheli is a program featuring music written by the brilliant Georgian composer Giya Kancheli for theatre and cinema, presented by renowned Ukrainian jazz musicians in a new musical interpretation through the arrangements of composer and pianist Rodion Ivanov. This program is an expression of gratitude to the Maestro for his extraordinary music and for the love of jazz that he carried throughout his entire life.

You will hear music from the films Children of the Sea by N. Pipinashvili, White Stones by R. Charkhalashvili and B. Tsuladze, Mimino by G. Danelia, Your Son, Earth by R. Chkheidze, The Eccentrics by E. Shengelaia, as well as from the stage productions A Role for a Beginning Actress, Khanuma, and The Caucasian Chalk Circle directed by Robert Sturua.
All arrangements for the program were created by renowned jazz pianist and composer Rodion Ivanov. The arrangements were inspired by those of Georgian conductor and composer Nikoloz Rachveli.
